Label Text: Best known for his mural and figure paintings, the Hungarian-born Szanto also earned a reputation as an accomplished etcher. Although he made his home in New York City for much of his life, his work was admired and acquired by collectors throughout the country. In his etchings, Szanto often turns to genre and landscape scenes for his subjects. This frontal view of a farmer with his team of horses demonstrates the dramatic sense of design and fine draughtmanship typical of Szanto’s printmaking.
