Label Text: Dehn devoted much of his career to perfecting his printmaking technique. His almost exclusive interest in this medium in the 1920s and 30s was responsible in part for his lengthy stays in Europe, where lithography skills at that time were superior to those in the United States. The lively drawing and rich tone of R.F.D. show how thoroughly he mastered the medium. This view of Dehn’s Minnesota family farm, with the country mailbox and scratching leghorn chickens in the foreground has a spontaneous charm that belies his years of concentrated study.
