Early “classical” Japanese printmakers defined their forms primarily with exquisitely spare lines. Shuji also emphasizes line, but her contemporary expression is more exuberant, spontaneous, and complex, with decorative use of color. Her organically billowing etched forms are inspired by kimono fabrics.
