Label Text: Dohanos called himself “an American realist” and was known for his remarkable ability to reveal beauty, humor and visual interest in the most common place subjects. State Fair focuses on one of the central dramas of any fair – the final moments in the competition for best steer. The viewer, however, sees the action from the inside of a chicken coop, from which the blue ribbon winner has fled, leaving her ribbons, a few feathers and a very impressive egg.
