Label Text: Better known as a sculptor, Nevelson was also a gifted printmaker. Her adventurous and open-minded approach to methods and materials is evident in this print that would have appeared radical in the 1960s. Etching and aquatint were techniques valued for delicacy and refinement. Nevelson pushed those qualities to new levels by permitting bold mark-making and broad, solid forms to dominate the composition. In this small format, she created a strong statement that expanded the expressive range of a traditional process (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection)."
