Label Text: Although he worked in New York City, Andreson was well known for his interpretations of Midwestern farm life. Much of his work in the late 1930s and early 40s was done for the Federal government, first with the Painting and Sculpture for Federal Buildings Program of the Treasure Department Art Projects and then for the WPA Federal Art Project. Western Saga, which depicts the different but equal roles played by a homesteader and his wife, is drawn from the experience Andreson gathered in his travels for the WPA.
