Label Text: Apart from her career as a photojournalist, Eva Rubinstein’s personal work addresses intimate subjects, such as nudes and portraits, cast in delicate light. She invests vacant interiors and unmade beds with a surprising emotional weight, projecting a sense of emptiness and recent loss. Rubinstein was born in South America where her father, pianist Arthur Rubinstein, was performing on tour. The family lived in France until emigrating during World War II. As a young girl, Rubinstein intended to be a dancer or actress, but turned to photography in 1967. She studied under influential photographers Lisette Model and Diane Arbus.
