Label Text: Shoson Ohara was an artist with the shin-hanga movement, which aimed to revitalize the traditional printmaking industry in the early 20th century. He designed relatively traditional images that were carved and printed by collaborators in Shozaburo Watanabe's publishing house. Ohara specialized in scenes of birds and animals rather than images of Japanese culture. He may have felt a special affinity for nature, or Watanabe may have requested nature scenes to appeal to certain foreign audiences.
